FomCo Solar and Dunext Romania showcase 20 MWh energy storage project in Mureș County

A 20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System integrated with FomCo Solar’s 6 MW photovoltaic park in Chirileu, Mureș County, is set to become a key reference project for the growing energy storage market in Romania. The project will be showcased during Energy Storage Open Day 2026, organised by FomCo Solar in partnership with Dunext Romania.

As Romania accelerates the development of renewable energy capacity, the integration of energy storage is becoming increasingly important for improving system flexibility, optimising renewable generation and supporting the transition towards a more resilient energy infrastructure.

In this context, the project developed by FomCo Solar in partnership with Dunext Romania in Chirileu, Mureș County, brings together approximately 6 MW of installed photovoltaic capacity and a 20 MWh energy storage system, creating an integrated solution designed to combine renewable energy generation with modern storage capabilities.

The project, owned by FomCo Solar, is among the most significant investments of its kind in Mureș County and represents a concrete example of how Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can be integrated into renewable energy projects in Romania.

Beyond the scale of the installation, the Chirileu project reflects a broader shift taking place across the energy sector: from a model focused primarily on renewable energy generation towards integrated solutions capable of generating, storing and intelligently managing electricity.

According to Nyulas Bernát László, Founder of FomCo Solar, the development of energy storage is an essential part of the next stage of the renewable energy transition. “I firmly believe that the future of renewable energy is about more than generating clean power. It is about complete solutions capable of generating, storing and intelligently managing energy. At FomCo Solar, we have always believed that every project matters, regardless of its size.”

The Chirileu photovoltaic park is one of FomCo Solar’s strategic projects and underlines the company’s focus on developing modern solutions covering renewable energy generation, energy storage and energy management.

For Dunext Romania, the successful implementation of an energy storage project goes beyond selecting and delivering the right technology. The overall design, system configuration, commissioning and long-term technical support are critical factors in ensuring that a BESS installation delivers sustainable value throughout its operational lifetime.

Marius Varga, Country Manager of Dunext Romania and Moldova, highlights the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to energy storage projects: “For us, an energy storage system is not simply a piece of equipment delivered to a customer; it is a solution that must operate correctly and generate long-term value. This is why the Dunext Romania team remains close to the customer at every stage: from understanding the requirements and configuring the solution to delivery, commissioning and technical support throughout the equipment’s service life. Professionalism means understanding the project as a whole, responding quickly and taking responsibility for the outcome.”

The Chirileu project therefore provides an opportunity to look beyond the technology itself and examine the practical challenges and opportunities associated with integrating large-scale battery storage into renewable energy infrastructure.
