Renovatio Solar to build 918 MWh BESS project for RNV Infrastructure and Greenvolt Power

The project is being developed through Borzești Energy Storage SRL, a special purpose vehicle owned by RNV Infrastructure and Greenvolt Power. Renovatio Solar will act as the project's full EPC contractor, covering engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. The project is expected to be delivered within an estimated 12-month construction schedule.

The scale of the Borzești project highlights the growing capabilities of Romania’s local EPC market in the energy storage sector. The appointment of Renovatio Solar as an integrated EPC contractor demonstrates that Romanian companies are increasingly able to undertake the engineering, procurement and construction requirements associated with large-scale BESS projects.

The project also points to the growing attractiveness of Romania as a destination for international capital targeting energy storage infrastructure. For Greenvolt Power, Borzești represents a further expansion of its activity in the Romanian storage market and forms part of a broader regional strategy focused on developing large-scale battery storage capacity.

The partnership with CATL adds another significant dimension to the project. With an estimated 38% share of the global battery market, CATL provides access to a Tier 1 global technology and supply chain. For Renovatio Solar, the partnership strengthens its positioning as an EPC integrator capable of delivering large-scale renewable energy and storage projects and enhances its competitiveness in future projects across the European market.

The 918 MWh Borzești Energy Storage project comes as battery storage is becoming increasingly important to the development of Romania’s renewable energy market. As the country's installed solar and wind capacity expands, large-scale storage projects are expected to play a growing role in balancing intermittent generation, supporting grid flexibility and enabling renewable energy assets to participate more effectively in electricity markets.
