Romania’s solar market enters its next phase

Intersolar Summit Romania on October 13–14, 2026, in Bucharest puts grid integration, storage and financing in the spotlight. Romania is emerging as one of Southeast Europe’s most dynamic renewable energy markets. Strong solar resources, growing investment and an expanding project pipeline are driving photovoltaic deployment. Solar energy is becoming an increasingly important part of the country’s electricity supply, attracting developers, investors, utilities and policymakers.

Figures reported by industry and event sources illustrate the pace of expansion. Romania added around 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of solar PV capacity in 2025, bringing total installed capacity to more than seven GW. By August 2026, cumulative capacity had exceeded 8.5 GW. Both utility-scale solar parks and installations owned by businesses and households generating electricity for their own use are contributing to this growth. Industry projections point to more than twelve GW of solar capacity by 2030. A planned one-GW solar park in western Romania further highlights the scale of investment entering the market.

As deployment accelerates, the country is entering a new stage of its energy transition. The challenge extends beyond adding generation capacity: integrating solar power reliably into the electricity system is becoming increasingly important. Grid infrastructure, battery storage and flexible electricity consumption will play a central role. Hybrid power plants combining solar PV, storage and other technologies offer further opportunities. Developers and investors also need viable business models, financing instruments and predictable regulatory frameworks.

These issues will take center stage at Intersolar Summit Romania, taking place on October 13–14, 2026, in Bucharest. The conference will bring together stakeholders from the energy industry, policymaking and finance to discuss the next steps for Romania’s solar market. Its program will explore the transition from rapid capacity deployment to a more flexible, integrated energy system capable of attracting further investment.

The summit will also look beyond Romania to the wider Southeast European region. As solar and wind generation expand across neighboring markets, grid stability, storage and cross-border cooperation are gaining importance. New electricity consumers and changing demand patterns create a growing need for solutions that align renewable generation with consumption. Flexibility will be essential to support continued deployment and make better use of existing and future energy assets.

By providing a platform for market insights, knowledge exchange and business connections, Intersolar Summit Romania will help participants identify opportunities and develop partnerships. At the heart of the discussions is how strong solar growth can translate into a reliable and economically sustainable electricity supply.
