YESS Power plans Romania entry after pioneering the First Solar-Plus-Storage Project in the Western Balkans

YESS Power, the energy storage brand of Topkapı Endüstri, has successfully tested and delivered a 30MW/60MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Mey Energy’s 55 MW Novaci solar power plant in North Macedonia.

The project marks the first large-scale battery storage system integrated into a solar power plant in North Macedonia and one of the most significant hybrid renewable projects in the Western Balkans. By storing surplus generation and delivering it during peak demand, the system enhances grid stability and increases the economic efficiency of renewable energy production.

As renewable capacity expands across Southeast Europe, adequate storage infrastructure is becoming essential to manage system imbalances and limit short-term price fluctuations. Countries that develop renewables alongside storage solutions can strengthen market stability while improving conditions for both industrial consumers and overall grid resilience.

The integration of advanced storage solutions is essential for the economic viability of large-scale solar projects and for the stability of energy systems. We see significant potential for hybrid project development across Southeast Europe, and Romania is among the markets we are actively assessing for expansion, given the pace of renewable investments and the growing need for long-term system flexibility,” said Emre Jabban, Business Development Manager, YESS Power.

The Novaci solar power plant, operational since 2023, has an installed capacity of 55 MW, spans 57 hectares and generates approximately 85 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 30,000 households. Located near the REK Bitola energy complex, traditionally based on coal-fired generation, the new storage system supports the region’s transition toward cleaner and more flexible energy systems.

YESS Power delivers full engineering, installation, commissioning and after-sales services for the storage segment, in partnership with Cubenergy, one of China’s leading battery system integrators. The collaboration extends beyond this project and forms the foundation of a long-term technology partnership focused on the Turkish and Eastern European markets.

YESS Power operates under Topkapı Endüstri, a company with more than 40 years of experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of power plants, bringing established EPC and operational expertise to utility-scale energy storage projects.

The company expects BESS investments to accelerate across the region in the coming years, driven by increasing renewable capacity and the need for grid flexibility.
