The share sale purchase agreement for 100% of the shares was signed at the end of 2025, and its approval was announced by the Port of Constanța on 12 February 2026. Transaction closing occurred at the end of April 2026.
The transaction strengthens the strategic partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the role of GIFP as Moldova’s main maritime gateway, handling over 70% of the country’s seaborne trade and maintaining a strong regional position.
Port of Constanța brings both capital and operational expertise, with a strategic plan focused on modernizing GIFP’s infrastructure, expanding capacity through new berths and land development, diversifying service offerings, and integrating the port into the broader Black Sea commercial network. In the long term, the Port of Constanța commits to investments aimed at expanding capacity, improving infrastructure, and consolidating its position in the Black Sea and Danube basin, enhancing GIFP’s competitiveness, Moldova’s logistical resilience, and regional trade connectivity.
