Monsson achieves DNV Safety Certification for BES System

Monsson announced that its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), located in Gălbiori, Constanța County, has successfully obtained safety compliance certification in accordance with the international standard IEC 62933-5-2:2020 and the DNV-EESS:2023-08 methodology for grid-connected electrochemical energy storage systems.

The certification, issued by DNV Renewables Certification GmbH, confirms that Monsson’s hall-type storage solution, unlike containerized systems, meets the highest international standards for design and operational safety. This is currently the only energy storage system in Romania and Europe to hold this certification.

“While product certifications are already a standard practice in the industry, Monsson chose to extend this rigor to the operational system level, subjecting the actual BESS configuration to an independent evaluation by DNV,” said Sebastian Enache, Member of Monsson’s Board of Directors. “This certification validates not only the quality of the equipment, but also the integration, control logic, and operational safety under real-world conditions. Our goal is to set a benchmark for the industry—demonstrating our commitment to a modern, safe, and responsible energy ecosystem.”

The commissioned storage facility has an installed capacity of 72 MWh, built by Monsson through a unique project that incorporates locally manufactured PRIME batteries. Capacity will increase to 216 MWh by early next year, with the entire expansion taking place at the same site.

The modular system is designed for large-scale storage applications, integrating state-of-the-art monitoring and safety technologies. Monsson’s in-house software for monitoring and control is fully adaptable, supporting both storage system operations and energy trading activities.
