Sameday acquires Cargus from MidEuropa Partners in strategic move
In a major development in Romania’s courier sector, Sameday, part of the eMAG group, has announced the acquisition of rival firm Cargus from private equity fund MidEuropa Partners. The transaction marks MidEuropa’s full exit from the Romanian market, as Cargus was its last remaining local asset.
Sameday, majority-owned by Dante International with a 94.51% stake, and led by CEO Lucian Baltaru, continues its ambitious growth strategy through this consolidation move. The acquisition is currently pending approval from Romania’s Competition Council.
Cargus, a long-standing player in the Romanian courier market, reported revenues of RON 567 million in 2024 but also posted a loss of RON 79.7 million.
Sameday, by contrast, reported revenues of RON 1.2 billion, highlighting its strong market position and financial resilience.
MidEuropa Partners originally acquired Cargus in 2018—then operating as Urgent Cargus—from Abris Capital Partners in a deal estimated at €100–150 million. The recent sale brings an end to the fund’s investments in Romania, closing a multi-year chapter of regional involvement.
Industry analysts view the acquisition as a natural next step for Sameday, aligning with broader trends of market consolidation and service integration in the fast-evolving courier and e-commerce logistics landscape. If approved, the transaction will reshape the competitive dynamics of the Romanian delivery sector and potentially boost operational efficiencies.
