The initiative marks one of the most significant examples of private involvement in Romania’s public healthcare system in recent years, highlighting a growing trend of businesses stepping into areas where critical medical infrastructure requires urgent modernization.
Advanced technology for one of Romania’s most important neurosurgery centers
The Bagdasar-Arseni Clinical Emergency Hospital remains one of Romania’s leading neurosurgical institutions, with Neurosurgery Section 3 performing more than 1,200 surgeries annually. The department is also recognized as the national leader in transsphenoidal surgery, carrying out between 100 and 150 procedures every year for complex skull-base tumors.
The newly funded Karl Storz 4K Neuroendoscopic Tower will significantly enhance the hospital’s surgical capabilities by enabling minimally invasive procedures with superior precision and visualization.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ligia Tataranu, Head of Neurosurgery Section 3, neuroendoscopic surgery is becoming increasingly important in the treatment of pituitary, skull base, and intracranial tumors.
“Having a state-of-the-art neuroendoscopy system that allows working with precision and delicacy in sometimes very small spaces is the dream of every neurosurgeon who practices endoscopy,” said Dr. Tataranu. “A high-performance neurosurgical approach gives patients the hope of a quick and smooth recovery and good long-term disease control.”
Medical specialists say the lack of modern endoscopic systems can directly limit patient access to safer surgical procedures with shorter recovery times, while also restricting surgeons from fully applying advanced surgical techniques.
AJ BRAND: Business Beyond Commercial Success
The campaign’s success was made possible through the full financial contribution of AJ BRAND, a Romanian EPC contractor active in the renewable energy sector, currently expanding its operations across Romania, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
For the company, the investment reflects a broader philosophy of corporate responsibility.
“Every life touches other lives,” said Adrian Stan, Founder and Chairman of the Board of AJ BRAND. “Wherever we go, we try to do something for the community. We do not measure success only in figures and projects, but in concrete actions and deeds, in hopes and dreams that become reality.”
Through this contribution, AJ BRAND also becomes the first founding member of the “Business Builds Romania” platform, a long-term initiative launched by Asociatia Ecovaloris to encourage private companies to support strategic projects in healthcare, education, and culture.
A new model of Corporate Involvement
For Asociatia Ecovaloris, the campaign represents more than a fundraising effort — it is part of a broader mission to build sustainable partnerships between the business community and public institutions.
“Every project starts from a need, but it is brought to life by people. And when people unite for a common purpose, everything is possible,” said Magda Ion, Founder and President of Asociatia Ecovaloris.
She emphasized that every contribution creates a chain reaction of benefits extending beyond hospitals and doctors.
“Every resource offered creates a wave of possibilities: for patients and their families, for doctors, for a system that learns and benefits from the initiatives and support of the business sector,” Ion added.
The campaign continues
Although the first and most important phase has been completed, the campaign continues with the objective of raising approximately €100,000 for two additional specialized neurosurgical instrument sets:
The Karl Storz Skull Base Neuroendoscopy Set, dedicated to advanced skull base surgery
The Karl Storz LOTTA and mini LOTTA Ventriculoscopy Set, designed for intracranial neuroendoscopic interventions and expected to become available starting Q2 2026
Organizers are now inviting additional companies to join the initiative and contribute to the modernization of neurosurgical care in Romania.
Asociatia Ecovaloris was founded by GOVNET Mediacom to create alternative funding mechanisms for public sector needs in healthcare, education, and culture.
Its previous projects include a €124,000 medical equipment donation in 2020 for the ENT Department of the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Clinical Emergency Hospital for Children, including a high-performance surgical microscopy system that has contributed to the treatment of more than 2,000 children over the last five years.
More recently, in December 2025, the association partnered with 11 private companies to support the reopening and refurbishment of the Library of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant after nearly a decade of closure during restoration works.
As Romania continues to face pressure on public healthcare funding, initiatives such as “Precision for Life, Technology for Neurosurgery” illustrate how strategic collaboration between civil society and business can generate measurable and lasting impact.
