To use the Smart Cart, customers must log into the Act for Good loyalty platform, available through the Carrefour mobile app. The shopping list is created directly on the cart’s touchscreen, and the system automatically generates an optimal route within the store, highlighting each product’s location. Every scanned item is instantly displayed on the screen, along with its price, ensuring better visibility. Additionally, if customers require assistance, they can request help via a dedicated button. Thanks to geolocation, staff can quickly locate and assist the user.
“Smart Cart is a major step in our strategy to digitize the in-store experience and a clear reflection of Carrefour’s commitment to innovation for the benefit of the customer. We launched this pilot project in the Corbeanca hypermarket with 40 devices, and since its launch, over 3,500 customers have already used Smart Cart—showing a strong interest in a system that makes shopping faster and more efficient. We believe this is the beginning of an important transformation, where technology and the in-store experience work hand in hand,” said Fabrice Gratien Besson, Security, Quality & Checkout Director at Carrefour Romania.
Another key benefit is the streamlined checkout process. At the end of the shopping trip, the cart generates a barcode that is quickly scanned at the register. All added products are automatically loaded into the system, allowing for fast payment.
The cart has an ergonomic design, enabling customers to place items directly into reusable bags or boxes. With a carrying capacity of up to 180 kg, 18 hours of battery autonomy, and a 6-hour charging time, the Smart Cart is built to handle continuous use throughout the day.
Smart Cart is also compatible with delivery platforms Bringo and Glovo, offering seamless integration with Carrefour’s omnichannel ecosystem—supporting both in-store shopping and rapid delivery preferences.
